Home Based Businesses - Opening Remarks
Finding low-cost and low-risk home based businesses is a good accomplishment, but that's only half the battle! The other half is developing or obtaining a strategy or roadmap for success. Therefore, I invite you to read on because I can show you how to get both!
As I mentioned in my welcome statement, I found 2 home based businesses that meet my needs - and they might meet yours too. They fall into the category of "internet affiliate marketing" (selling other company's products and services for a commission). I chose internet affiliate marketing because the entry cost and risk are low when compared to other types of home based businesses. I chose the following affiliate programs:

PIPS (or the Plug-in Profit Site) is a great place to start for newbies or for experienced entrepreneurs looking to expand existing home based businesses. You get a great deal of what you need to be successful:

I've seen some of the other "get-a-free-website" offers out there and, in my opinion, they don't even come close to PIPS. For example, the training includes a set of web-based material called "30-Days to Success." It's written so you can go at your own pace, no matter how fast or slow that might be. I run my home based businesses on a part-time basis, so it took me way more than 30 days to get through the material - I won't tell you just how long - and I learned a lot in the process. It's loaded with a ton of information and tips on how to promote your web site and it clearly states that you can become successful by using only one or a combination of the many techniques it describes.
The Lesson I Learned
I learned that the PIPS program provides so much information that one can easily lose focus and end up spending a lot of money and time with little or no positive results to show for it!
After some trial and error with some of the techniques presented in the "30 Days to Success" material, I reminded myself that my initial goal was to get in, learn the business, get profitable then consider options for expansion. To get myself back on track, I decided that my road to success would be chartered with FREE and TARGETED traffic to my website. Therefore, I've been focusing on two techniques: a) search engine optimization and b) article marketing.
My Recommendation to You
You will need to decide what your road to success will be, because the PIPS training provides you with a lot of options. However, based upon my lessons learned, I recommend that you start with what I call "The Minimum PIPS Configuration". What is that? It's the website and the required hosting. You then supplement that with the knowledge, tools and techniques required for getting FREE and TARGETED traffic to your website through search engine optimization and article marketing.
If you choose to do this, then you will need to stay focused, persevere and ignore all the other options until your PIPS home page is profitable. I repeat - to get and stay focused, you need to ignore all other options until your PIPS home page is profitable!
With that in mind, here's my recommended action plan

Sign-up for the Minimum PIPS Configuration
- Browse through the PIPS program information. You don't have to read everything, just cover enough to make sure you get a good feel for what's being offered. Click here to access PIPS Note: Keep the PIPS window open so you can complete steps 2 thru 5 below.
- Select a domain name (if you don't already have one) and get it registered by Host4Profit ($15 USD per year)
- Host your new PIPS website at Host4Profit - that's a program requirement ($24.95 USD per month)
- Sign up for the Internet Warriors affliate program
- DO NOT sign up for the other affiliate programs at this time (i.e. SFI, Traffic Swarm, Success University and Empowerism). Instead, you can revisit these options AFTER you've determined the market niche you want to sell to.
- After you have been notified that your PIPS site is ready (takes 24 to 48 hours), refer to the "30 Days to Success" table of contents and find the section on the Autoresponder (it's usually Day 3). Follow the instructions to upgrade your GetResponse autoresponder ($145 USD per year) to the "PRO" version. You must do this to get rid of the advertising that comes with the free version. Otherwise, you will be sending other company's ads to your list of prospects and customers.
- Make sure everything on your new PIPS website is working properly. Report any problems to the PIPS support desk.
- When you do the math on the costs listed above, you'll see that this "minimum configuration" will cost you $38.28 USD per month. It means you will have a place to do business and the means to follow-up with your prospects and customers. Now, you need the means to select your market niche.
Determine The Market Niche You Want To Sell To
This is one of the most critical things you need to do to be successful. You might ask: Why do this before I select products and services to sell? The answer is that you will save yourself a lot of time, money and frustration if you first find out what people want to buy. Once you know that, you can find and offer them the products and services that are good matches to what they are already looking for! The people searching the net for products and services to buy are "the market" - and it's still growing! You need to find the sub-set of that market who are looking for the products and services that you can provide. That sub-set is otherwise known as a "market niche".
You determine the market niche you want to sell to by doing research within the broad context of internet home based businesses. Potential customers let you know what they are searching for by the keywords and keyword phrases they use in search engines. So, the goal of your research is to find the keywords and keyword phrases that are in demand yet with moderate to low competition. Once you find some keywords and keyword phrases that look promising, you will need to analyze the competition for those keywords and keyword phrases because you are not the only entrepreneur trying to find profitable market niches. Once you decide how you will deal with your competition, you need to position your website to beat the competition. The goal of this process is to optimize your website for high search engine ranking. You can do it manually, but it will take you almost forever. Therefore, you need the right software tools to speed things up. So, here's the action I recommend:
- Buy Keyword Elite by Brad Callen ($176 USD - one time charge). I'm using it to find and evaluate the market niches I'm interested in. Take your time here because once you identify the market you want to compete in, you will need to use your selected keywords and keyword phrases to shape the message you intend to present to your website visitors - how you craft that message is otherwise known as "on-page optimization." Brad provides excellent and comprehensive training to help you do a thorough job of keyword and keyword phrase research so that you learn what to do and how to do it. - Buy SEO Elite by Brad Callen ($167 USD - one time charge). You will use most of the SEO Elite capabilities after you have finished your on-page optimization and launched your web page. However, I recommend that you buy it when you buy Keyword Elite because Brad offers a discount when you buy both at the same time. I'm using SEO Elite to further define my competition and to get backlinks to my website. It also has an article submission function. The research you do here is otherwise known as "off-page optimization". Take your time here because the goal is not get any backlinks. Instead, you need to identify and pursue the best quality backlinks because these are the ones that will help you to achieve the best search engine ranking. Brad provides excellent and comprehensive training that covers several effective techniques for getting quality backlinks. At this point, you might be thinking about out-sourcing the on-page and off-page optimization I described above. If you are, then I would discourage you from taking that action. Why? Because they are mission-critical aspects of your website promotion strategy. As you think about this, keep in mind that no one (and I do mean no one) will care for your business the way that you do - no matter how little or how much you might pay them to take care of certain aspects of it!
In other words, you need to be knowledgeable of the market you intend to sell to. If you pay some company to define the market for you - through on-page and off-page optimization of your web site - then what will you do when the market changes? My opinion is that change itself is one of the few things we can count on in internet home based businesses. So, when your market changes, you will have to pay just to keep up and pay every time it changes. On the other hand, if you do the search engine optimization yourself, it will take persistent and dedicated effort. However, you'll get better at it the more you do it and the knowledge, skill and insight you can gain can pay you great benefits as you progress in your business. The Keyword Elite and SEO Elite software and training will help you take and keep control of your business!
When you do the math on the costs listed above, you'll see that the recommended software for search engine optimization will cost you $343 USD (one-time charge).
It means that, once your search engine optimization work is complete, you know what your niche market is. Now, it's time for you to modify the content of your web site to address your niche market.
Change The Content of Your Home Page to Address Your Niche Market
As you progress with your research for on-page optimization (via Keyword Elite) and off-page optimization (via SEO Elite), you will start identifying some prospective niches that will have to be further defined or qualified to increase your odds of profitability. During this fine-tuning process, start looking for some articles that address your keyword and keyword-phrase results. You can write an article yourself or select one from Stone Evans or select one from an article directory or hire a ghost writer (you will need to instruct the ghost writer to write an article around the keyword or keyword phrase that identifies your market niche).The ghost writer that Stone Evans recommends is Just Articles. They will write an original 450-to-600 word keyword-relevant article for $25 USD (one-time charge). If you are not used to writing articles or finding them in article directories, then buying an original might save you a lot of time. Your home page should be your first priority for content changes.

Your possession of your keyword-relevant article has two benefits. First, you can post it on your website to add keyword-relevant content to it. In addition to the value your clients and prospects receive from an article, you need it for the search engines because it's used by search engines as one factor for website ranking. Second, you can submit your article to quality article directories to get links (called back links) to your web site. The number and quality of back links are another factor search engines use to determine website ranking.
Now that you've selected a profitable keyword or keyword phrase and a relevant article, it's time to select a product or service or a set of products and services that fit your keyword or keyword phrase. This is where you take another look at the other affiliate programs I told you earlier to come back to later (i.e., SFI, Traffic Swarm, Success University and Empowerism). Select those that are relevant to your keyword or keyword phrase. They are all fine options, but you are not limited to them. You are free to promote whatever products and services that best fit the market niche you want to sell to.
- To keep things simple and to save time, I suggest that you keep the basic PIPS structure (i.e., vertical & horizontal boxes), but you should definitely customize the content to reflect your specific market niche. You will receive the "standard" PIPS site when you sign up and it will include one of Stone Evan's articles and his picture. If the article fits your keyword or keyword-phrase niche, then keep it. Otherwise, replace it with one that does. Also, remove Stone's picture - after all, if anybody's picture is on YOUR site, it should be yours!
- Buy Peter Hale's TotalWebSEO product ($64 USD one-time charge). Through videos, he shows you what you need to do to get 500 visitors per day to your website (that's FREE & TARGETED traffic)! Note that after you've completed your search engine optimization, you will be getting people who are actually looking for what you're selling, so your odds of making a sale is much greater with that group than with those who are merely surfing the net.

- Buy Darrin McLaughlin's Basic PIP Site Editing Videos ($37 USD one-time charge). He provides some basic HTML code and shows you how to use it to modify your website.

- With the knowledge and skill you gain from your search engine optimization research and the website change techniques you learn from Peter Hale and Darrin McLaughlin, customize your website content to address the market niche your research shows is most profitable. Customization of your website content is critical to your success - you must distinguish your website from all the other PIPS sites out there - and there are a lot out there!
When you do the math on the costs listed above, you'll see that your website content changes will cost you $101 USD (one-time charge). Add an additional $25 USD (one-time charge) if you buy a 450-to-600 word original keyword-relevant (or keyword phrase-relevant) article from Just Articles.
It means that, once your website content changes are completed, you are ready to do business on the internet. Now, it's time for you to launch your new - customized website!
Launch Your New - Customized - Website
- Launch your new customized website with your chosen PIPS affiliate programs and/or other programs that best fit the niche market for your home based business (or home based businesses).
After the launch is when you start utilizing most of the capabilities of SEO Elite. Identifying and evaluating backlinks is a primary capability and the software training shows you several different solid techniques. But, actually getting quality backlinks to your website is up to you and it is critical to your success because it's a key factor that search engines use to rank your site. Now, when you do this for the first time, don't expect huge and instantaneous results because there's a learning curve that everybody experiences (whether they use SEO Elite or not...but using SEO Elite definitely makes the process a lot more comprehensive and easier so you can do it right the first time). You will use SEO Elite to identify the most beneficial backlinks - it's staright forward but it does take some time to finish the training and to act on what you learn. Once you know what backlinks you want, you will contact the associated website owners with a backlink request - that takes time because it takes time for the website owners to get back to you and some are slower than others. In addition, some will honor your request and some won't - that's life. The good news is that as you acquire quality backlinks, your website will start rising in search engine rank - how fast it rises depends, in part, upon the number and quality of backlinks you have and how quickly the search engines refresh their rankings. Another good thing SEO Elite allows you to do is monitor how fast (or slow) your competition is moving so that you can develop a strategy to keep up and eventually get out in front of them. The bottom line is to take the free SEO Elite training, be persistent in applying what you learn, be patient with your backlink acquisition process, and monitor your competition so you can keep pace or move ahead and stay ahead! Remember that getting and staying profitable is not an event. It's a process that requires your persistent attention. If you discipline yourself, then I believe you will find that (hardly) nothing can replace the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction you will feel once your hard work starts paying off for you! So, I say go far it and stay with it in order to make your home based businesses as profitable as possible!
- Make a habit of monitoring the traffic to your website on a regular basis. You might need to fine-tune the message you're comminicating or make other adjustments (e.g., making sure your links work, etc.).
- If you decide to implement it, my recommended action plan will cost you a total of $444 USD (one-time charge) and $38.28 USD (per month) - you will have to add a one-time charge of $25 USD if you buy the article. I've shown the total here as well as the component parts above so that you will know the full-cost of implementing my recommended action plan. I think you will find that the roadmap or strategy I've provided is worth far more than that. I already know it is!
Repeat The Optimization Process For The Rest Of Your Website Pages
- The "standard" PIPS website you received consists of one page (the home page). Don't worry about adding additional pages until AFTER your home page is profitable. After that, you can decide how and to what extent to expand your website.
- Adding new pages to your website is optional. However, if you decide to do so, then be sure to apply the lessons you learned from search engine optimization and from customizing the content of your home page to the pages you add. Don't rush through this. Make sure you give it the same care and attention you gave to your home page.

Home Based Businesses - Working From Home
If anybody knows how to make money online, it's Ewen Chia - a super affiliate among super affiliates. He has produced a wide variety of products and services for home based businesses. One of the most recent is his Working From Home system.
His Secret Report, which shows 3 ways to make money on the internet, is the first stage in his 3-stage system.
You can develop an internet home based business simply by promoting his Secret Report. Here's how it works. First, you must purchase his Report ($14.97 USD one-time charge). Second, you promote his Report on your website. That's it!
He will pay you commission on each stage of the system that your referral buys. They will have to buy the first stage (the Secret Report) in order to qualify to buy the second and third stages. So, your commission will be $10 USD for the first stage (the Secret Report), $47 USD for the second stage and $103 USD for the third stage. This means that if your referral buys all 3 stages, then you earn $160 USD in commission just for promoting the Secret Report. I think this is definitely a low-cost and low-risk way to enter the internet home based businesses arena.
